Preparing for Judgment Day

Letter to the Editor:
PASUGO, June 1995, p.2

I NOTICED FROM reading the newspapers and watching television reports that a cult in Japan is very much in the news. One of its teachings states that Judgment Day will take place before the turn of the Millennium.

To prepare its members for Judgment Day, teach-in sessions and survival training programs are conducted in the cult's headquarters.

I would like to know what will happen on Judgment Day. Is there anyway we could prepare for that awaited day?

Lastly, who can face that day with high hopes?

Editor's reply:

What will take place on Judgment Day has been prophesied by the servants of God. Apostle Peter states:

And that same word of God is keeping the skies and the earth that we have now. They are being kept to be destroyed by fire. They are kept for the day of judgment and the destruction of all people who are against God.

10 But the day when the Lord comes again will surprise everyone like the coming of a thief. The sky will disappear with a loud noise. Everything in the sky will be destroyed with fire. And the earth and everything in it will be burned up.  (II Pt. 3:7, 10, Easy To Read Version)

This, according to the Bible, is what will take place on Judgment Day. As to when it will take place, however, no one knows, not even Christ, but the Father (cf. Mt. 24:36).

36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. ( Mt. 24:36, NKJV)

How can man prepare for that day? The Bible teaches us the following:

“And so, my friends, as you wait for that Day, do your best to be pure and faultless in God’s sight and to be at peace with him.” (II Pt. 3:14, Today’s English Version)

This peace can be found in one body which is the Church (cf. Col. 3:15; 1:18).

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. (Col. 3:15, NKJV)

18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. (Col. 1:18, NKJV)

The Church which is Christ’s body is the Church of Christ which He purchased with His blood (cf. Acts 20:28, Lamsa).

Take heed therefore to yourselves and to all the flock over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you overseers, to feed the church of Christ which he has purchased with his blood. (Acts 20:28, Lamsa)

Therefore, it is members of the Church of Christ that are at peace with God as they await the day of Judgment.

Apostle Paul assures those who are in union with Christ by becoming members of His body (cf. Rom. 12:4-5) will not be condemned (cf. Rom. 8:1). Thus, the members of the true Church have all the reasons to be hopeful on the second advent of Christ.
