On exposing
erroneous doctrines by contrast |
BEING ALWAYS ON THE ROAD, it has become my
hobby to tune in to your radio station (DZEM 954 khz) I must
admit that I learn a lot from your programs especially with
regards to various religious beliefs. In your attempt to be fair
and objective, I also noticed that you quote from books written
by authorities of other religions. However my wife once quipped
why your speakers at times deal with the beliefs of other
religions instead of just confining yourselves to the doctrines
you uphold. Is that approach not against the Bible?
Peter John Isidro, Manila, Philippines

Is Adam's sin
inherited? |
ROMANS 5:12 STATES
that "through one man, sin entered the world/' Am I
correct in my understanding that the "one man'' being
referred to is Adam? if so, is there any way we can be set free from
inheriting Adam's sin? Are we and the next generations after
us doomed to carry the curse of Adam's sin? It just
seems so unfair that I or my children have to pay the price for a
mistake that was made by someone else.

shoes, why would I create the devil or something that would make

No to
superstition |
I COME FROM a family of die-hard Catholics. I've
noticed that superstitious beliefs have
already been part of our life. It is as if no
move was without a bearing from superstition . Let me give you a few
examples.
On attending a night vigil for a dead relative or a
friend, babies up to five or six years of age are crossed over the
coffin three times. This is administered
by two adults who stand on opposite sides
of the coffin. This the old folks say, is for the child not to be afraid of the dead and not to be visited by
the spirit of the dead.
On New Year's eve, all lights must be turned on and
all windows, doors, and drawers
must be left open from midnight to one
o'clock in the morning. This is for good fortune the whole year
round.
We also have to turn the plates when someone
leaves and the others are not yet finished eating; are not allowed
to sweep at night, and many more. Do we really have to be governed by these beliefs?

Did God create
Satan? |
I HAVE READ your magazine and I find your
teachings quite interesting and enlightening. I wrote to ask
these questions that have been bothering me for some time: What is
the purpose of God in creating Satan? If God is a God of love, why
did He create such an evil being?
Stanly Erdmann,
Rochester, New York, U.S.A.

On psychics,
mediums,
spirit guides and channeling |
I FREQUENTLY CONSULT psychics on important matters
in my life. I have proven many times that what they say is
accurate, especially the things they say will happen in the future.
I even had a chance to communicate with a dead relative through
them. But a friend told me to stop what I was doing. What can
you advise me regarding psychics, spirit guides and channeling?

Body parts |
HERE IN CANADA, on the back of everyone's driver's
license, there is a section that asks if the licensee would like to
donate, in the case of his accidental death, his body parts to
scientific research or his organs to those who are in need of a
transplant. What does the Bible say about the donation of body
parts?

On psychics,
seers, fortunetellers and astrologers |
I RECEIVED AN e-mail saying that the
recent terrorist bombings in the United States were foretold by the
French astrologer, Nostradamus. I was so intrigued
that I rented the video- tape, The Man Who Saw Tomorrow,
which featured Nostradamus' different predictions. According to the
videotape, Nostradamus had many other predictions that came true.
My questions are, what does the Bible say about people who predict
the future, specifically seers, psychics, fortune-tellers, and
astrologers like Nostradamus? Can they really tell the future?
Should we believe them? And what if their predictions come true?
Danny Spahr,
Santa Monica, California, USA

On putting
other religions down |
WE ARE SEVEN in the office adhering to
different religions. During our break-time periods we often discuss
religion and my attention was struck by what one of my co-workers
said, that only the Iglesia ni Cristo members will be saved by Jesus
Christ on Judgment Day.
To satisfy my curiosity, I attended the
worship services held on Thursdays by the Iglesia ni Cristo with the
help of Virginia Sangre, one of my officemates who is a member of
your religion. I was impressed at the way discipline and commitment were
shown when I attended worship services at the local Church of the Iglesia ni Cristo at Pondol, Balamban, Cebu through the courtesy of
Ms. Sangre’s family.
I asked for a copy of the PASUGO to
satisfy my growing curiosity. I read the “Letters” column and this
encouraged me to write this letter.
My question is, “Why does the Iglesia ni
Cristo claim that only its members will be saved on Judgment Day?
Did not Christ say ‘not all people calling me Lord, Lord has the
assurance to enter the
kingdom of God’?”
Secondly, I appreciate the article of
Mr. Pedrito B. Placio entitled, “Whom to believe and why” (May-June
1992) but what turned me off is his tendency to put his previous
religion, which is Catholicism, down. This seems to be the standard
procedure of the Iglesia ni Cristo—putting other religions down. I would like to stress that if we
understand and respect each other and teach our doctrines without
putting others down, then we altogether celebrate the word of God.
He will be happy if we do this. And if we as the
church
of God share
love, then all of us will be saved.
Rio B. Amorado,
Cebu, Philippines
