Examine the Verse
John 8:40
This verse is claimed to
provide
the basis of the Iglesia ni Cristo belief that
as the
Son of God, "Jesus is Man" in
nature and state of being.
|
But now you seek to kill Me,
a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God.
Abraham did not do this.
(John 8:40, New King James
Version) |

Iglesia ni Cristo belief in God and
Jesus Christ:
Iglesia
ni Cristo believes in the absolute oneness
of God, that "the
Only True God is the Father" in heaven; The Father is the Lord God Almighty, the
Creator of all things. God is Spirit, eternal, immortal and invisible; He is the
God and Father of Jesus Christ and His Apostles; and that of
Moses,
Abraham and the ancient Israelites.
Iglesia ni
Cristo believes that Jesus is the
Christ, the Son of God. As the Son
of God,
Jesus is a
Man.
However, Jesus is not an ordinary man but a "very special Man",
who was sanctified; made
Lord, Christ, Savior, Mediator and Judge by God. |

Apostle's admonition, warning and
unique way of teaching:
1.
No prophecy of scripture is a matter of personal
interpretation. (II Pt. 1:20, NAB)
2. Do not go beyond what
is written. (I
Cor. 4:6, NIV)
3.
We do not use words of human wisdom. We speak words given to
us by the Spirit,
using the Spirit's words to explain spiritual truths. (1
Cor. 2:13, NLT) |

Points to Consider: |
|
|
1.
Notice that in the above verse, it is the Lord Jesus that is
talking to the Israelites who wanted to kill Him.
2. The Lord Jesus clearly said this about Himself: "But now you seek to kill Me,
a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God.
Thus, the Lord Jesus clearly declared that He is a
Man. He did not say that He is God the Son or God
Himself.
3. Please note very carefully, that as a Man,
Jesus said that He is telling the
truth He heard from God. Thus, Jesus made it clear
that He is distinct from God, from whom He heard the truth.
Therefore, Jesus is not God Himself.
4. If Trinitarians still insist that Jesus is God,
then, they are in effect also saying that Jesus is not
telling the truth, which is impossible because Jesus did not
tell a lie
(I
Peter 2:22). |

John 8:40 in other versions of
the Bible: |
|
|
But now ye seek to kill me, a man
that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God:
this did not Abraham.
(King James
Version)
But now ye seek to
kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I heard
from God: this did not Abraham. (American
Standard Version)
As it is, you are
looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the
truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things.
(New International Version)
