Examine the Verse
Matthew 16:15-17
This verse is
claimed to provide the basis of the
Iglesia ni Cristo belief that
Jesus is the "Son of God"―not God the Son,
and more so not God himself.
|
15 He said to them, “But who do
you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered and
said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living
God.”
17 Jesus answered and said to
him,
“Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has
not revealed this
to you, but My Father who is in heaven".

Version) |

Iglesia ni Cristo belief in God and
Jesus Christ:
Iglesia
ni Cristo believes in the absolute oneness of God. That "the
Only True God is the Father" in heaven;
The Father is the Lord God Almighty, the Creator of all
things. God is Spirit, eternal, immortal and invisible;
He is the God and Father of Jesus Christ and His Apostles;
and that of Moses, Abraham and the ancient Israelites.
Iglesia ni Cristo believes
that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. As the Son of God,
Jesus is a Man. However, Jesus is not an ordinary man but a
"very special Man",
who was sanctified; made Lord, Christ, Savior, Mediator and
Judge by God. |

Apostle's admonition and warning:
1.
No prophecy of scripture is a matter of personal
interpretation. (II Pt. 1:20)
2. Do not go beyond what
is written. (I
Cor. 4:6) |
|
|
Points to Consider: |
|
|
1. Notice
that in the above verses, the Lord Jesus Himself was asking
Simon Peter the question,
“But who do you say
that I am"?
2.
Simon Peter answered and clearly said,
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
And thus approvingly, Jesus answered and said to
Him "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has
not revealed this
to you, but My Father who is in heaven".
3. Thus, the belief that Jesus is the "Son of God"
(not God the Son) is correct for this is the truth revealed
by the Father to Apostle Peter. |

Matthew 16:15-17 in other versions of
the Bible: |
|
|
He saith unto them, But whom say ye
that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the
Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and
said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh
and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father
which is in heaven.
(King James
Version)
Then he asked them,
“But who do you say I am?”
Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah,
the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied,
“You are blessed,
Simon son of John,
because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You
did not learn this from any human being.
(New Living Translation)
